The 2012 ASEAN singing contest will open in Ho Chi Minh City on March 5.
The event has attracted 10 art troupes from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Brunei, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, Singapore and Vietnam. It aims to strengthen ties of friendship and solidarity among ASEAN member countries as well as cooperation among regional television stations.
Each contestant will sing a pop song in English and a folk song in their own language.
Songs in the traditional and folk music category will be presented at the opening ceremony on March 5 and the light music category will be performed on March 7. The final awards ceremony will take place on March 9.
Singers Duc Tuan and Thanh Ngoc will represent Vietnam in the event.
